This year marks the 12th anniversary of the release of the cult wine movie Sideways. This film follows two friends in their mid-forties, Miles Raymond and Jack Cole, as they travel through the Santa Barbara wine country visiting local wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley. The movie has become somewhat of a cult classic among wine connoisseurs, and every year hundreds of people attempt to recreate the journey the characters take in the movie.  At Silk Road Transportation, we think this journey is an excellent idea, and we want to work with you to make your Sideways trip a successful one. Below, we have listed the first day in the quest of your recreation.

Firestone Vineyards

The first stop on our Sideways winery tour is one of the oldest wineries in Santa Barbara County,  Firestone Vineyards. Founded in 1972, this vineyard offers a wide variety of wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, and Chardonnay. The winery does ask however that all patrons remain in the designated areas while sampling wines. While the barrel room is available for viewing, guests are encouraged not to take it upon themselves to explore.

Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard

Located a little over a mile down the road from Firestone Vineyards, the second stop on our Sideways tour is the always impressive Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard. Founded by famed Davy Crockett actor Fess Parker,Jr., this winery is one of the most aesthetically impressive wineries in the region, and produces around 75,000 cases of wine annually, and is known to produce some of the best Reds in the area*.

*As a side note, all dump buckets are off limits to sampling by the guests.

Foxen Vineyard

The third and final vineyard on the first day of the Sideways tour is one of our favorites. Foxen Vineyards offers guests a rustic look and experience that cannot be found at many wineries in the area. However, don’t let the outward appearance of the winery fool you. Foxen is known for producing some of the best wines in the region, and their Pinot Noir is a must-try item. You may be tempted to down a whole bottle during your visit, but the winery asks that you stick to the designated portion size.

So ends the first day of the Sideways tour. With multiple packages available for any size party, we at Silk Road Transportation want to make your winery tour as easy as possible. Contact us today, let us know which wineries you want to visit, and leave the driving to us.
