Sideways Wine Tour: Day Two
As we discussed in our last post, The Santa Ynez Valley located in Santa Barbara is home to some of the best wineries in the United States. This fact, in conjunction with the beautiful landscape, has made this area one of the most heavily trafficked wine areas in the world. Previously we had listed the first three stops to complete our Sideways wine trail, and in this post we will list the list the final three.
Located in beautiful Santa Ynez, Kalyra Winery brings a little bit of down under flair to the California countryside. Founded by Australian-born winemaker Mike Brown, this winery offers up a plethora of Australian wines made from grapes imported directly from Australia. Enjoy samplings of white and red wines including Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a variety of dessert wines. Let the good vibes lead to good times and enjoy this winery to the fullest.
Sanford Winery and Vineyards
Just a few miles down the road from our first stop, Sanford Winery and Vineyards. Recognized as one of the first places pioneering vineyards were planted in the Santa Barbara, this vineyard delivers classically good wine at an affordable price point. For over 40 years this vineyard has set the quality for standard in the region, and boasts the oldest pinot noir vines in the county. Guided by a fourth generation wine family, the Terlato’s, this winery has something for everybody.
While the next two wineries weren’t actually in the movie Sideways, we would feel remiss if we didn’t suggest them to our customers.
Mosby Winery and Vineyards
Mosby Winery and Vineyards is one of our favorite wineries in the area. While other wineries focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this winery specializes in producing Italian varietals such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, and Cortese. The tasting room is located in a rustic looking red barn that originally served as a carriage house in the late 1800s. This winery is a refreshing, classic change of pace that we feel you will enjoy
Melville Vineyards & Winery
The last stop on our tour, Melville Vineyards & Winery offers three lines of wine from their estate vineyard, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Located in the hills of Western Santa Ynez Valley, this winery has an old-school Mediterranean feel that goes perfectly with its wines, and is one of the most highly regarded estates in California. Stop by and try some of their delicious wines.
